US President Donald Trump has stirred the cryptocurrency market by naming five digital coins he wishes to include in a new “Crypto Strategic Reserve” intended to make the United States the “Crypto Capital of the World.” The coins—Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Solana, and Cardano—saw their market prices surge shortly after Trump’s announcement on social media.
Trump revealed in a statement that he had authorised the Presidential Working Group to proceed with plans for the reserve, specifying that XRP, SOL, and ADA would be included, with BTC and ETH at the core of the new stockpile. The move marks a notable pivot from Trump’s earlier scepticism, when he described Bitcoin as a “scam” in 2021.
The initiative comes in the wake of a period when crypto prices had tumbled after an initial surge post-election. It also follows an executive order Trump signed soon after assuming office in January, which established a working group to propose new cryptocurrency regulations and explore the creation of a national digital asset stockpile, potentially using assets seized by law enforcement.
While the operational details of the reserve remain unclear and it is uncertain if establishing such a fund would require Congressional approval, the announcement has injected fresh optimism into the market, with some of the coins experiencing price increases of up to 62% in a short period. More clarity is expected on Friday at the first Crypto Summit scheduled to be hosted at the White House.
