TikTok Faces Potential US Ban as Diplomats Negotiate Trade in Spain
UK and Chinese diplomats are set to continue their trade discussions for a second day in Spain this Monday, amid growing pressure on TikTok's Chinese owners to secure a sale or face prohibition in the United States.
These critical conversations, led by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and China's Vice Premier He Lifeng, mark a continued effort to ease the tensions ignited by a longstanding trade dispute between the two mammoth economies.

The last convergence of senior trade emissaries from the two nations took place in Sweden this July, resulting in a 90-day extension of their tariff armistice.
In a departure from his earlier calls for a ban on TikTok during his first tenure, President Trump has since shifted his stance on the widely popular video-sharing platform, postponing its ban on three occasions thus far.
In a statement to journalists on Sunday, President Trump exhibited uncertainty regarding the app's fate, commenting, “We may let [TikTok] die. Or we may… I don't know. It's really up to China. It's not of significant concern.”
This statement comes amid anticipation that the deadline, set to expire this Wednesday, will be postponed for a fourth instance.
Last month, Trump hinted at further extensions of the deadline until a suitable purchaser for TikTok could be identified, downplaying the national security and privacy worries linked to the app and its Chinese parent entity, ByteDance, as “greatly exaggerated.”
The Reporters has sought responses from the White House and TikTok regarding these developments.
TikTok, as one of the globe's most popular social media venues, boasts roughly 170 million devotees in the US alone.
This week's dialogues are likely to pave the way for a potential summit between President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, possibly as early as October, coinciding with a scheduled summit in South Korea.
Additionally, the US and China have agreed to prolong a tariff cease-fire until November, thereby scaling back the threatened tariffs which surpassed 100% on mutual imports.
This reprieve grants additional time for resolving disputes over “unfair trade practices” and addressing concerns related to national security, as stated by the White House.
