Scottish Craft Beer Leader Brewdog Seeks Investment Opportunities for Sustainable Development
Scottish craft beer powerhouse, Brewdog, is on the brink of being put up for sale, following the enlistment of financial specialists to seek fresh investment avenues.
AlixPartners has been tasked with steering the potential sale, which may result in the fragmentation of the enterprise.

Established in 2007 by comrades James Watt and Martin Dickie, Brewdog has expanded its footprint globally, boasting approximately 60 establishments within the UK, alongside its breweries.
The firm acknowledges the move as a strategic response to the “challenging economic climate”, aiming to bolster the “long-term vigour and sustainability” of Brewdog.
A representative for Brewdog disclosed: “After a year marked by strategic cost management and efficiency drives in 2025, we've engaged AlixPartners to facilitate a structured and competitive process, evaluating future investment prospects for the enterprise. This reflects our commitment to ensuring the enduring success of the Brewdog brand and its operations.”
Furthermore, anticipation is high for “considerable interest” in this endeavour, with assurances that Brewdog's breweries and bars will maintain normal operations.
AlixPartners has reserved comment on the prospective sale.
Brewdog conveyed to its staff in a recent email, revealed by Reporters Scotland News, that AlixPartners will collaborate closely with the executive team to scrutinise investment alternatives and propose strategies. This initiative is underscored as a thoughtful and reasonable measure, without any immediate changes to daily operations, roles, or immediate plans. The primary focus continues to be on crafting exceptional beer, delivering stellar customer service, and supporting their teams.
The previous month saw Brewdog ceasing the production of gin and vodka at their Ellon, Aberdeenshire distillery, aiming to “sharpen” the company's focus.
Following a £37m loss report, Brewdog announced layoffs last October. Earlier, the firm had closed 10 of its UK bars, including its flagship venue in Aberdeen.
Currently, Brewdog provides employment to roughly 1,400 individuals and operates breweries in Ellon, as well as in the US, Australia, and Germany.
The company's promotional tactics and workplace ethos have frequently attracted media attention. In 2024, Brewdog faced scrutiny for opting out of offering the real living wage to new hires, favoring the lower statutory minimum wage instead. Subsequently, Watt transitioned from CEO to the role of “captain and co-founder”.
Dickie departed from Brewdog last year, citing personal reasons for his exit.
