The online retail giant has revealed that its subscribers will need to pay £1.99 for same-day delivery if their basket's total is below £20. This fee will be in addition to their monthly subscription charge of £8.99.

The forthcoming changes, scheduled to take effect from 18 September, were communicated to customers through email notifications.
Amazon clarified in a statement that all orders to Prime members will be shipped with the fastest available free option “by default”.
The company highlighted that its Prime members benefit from fast, free one-day delivery for a vast array of items. Amazon continuously strives to offer a diverse range of high-value products at optimal speeds. In the UK, over a million items are now eligible for same-day delivery.
As per the new policy, Prime members can avail of same-day deliveries at no charge for select orders exceeding £20, or for a fee of £1.99 if the total order value is below £20.
The standard Prime subscription cost was already increased from £7.99 to £8.99 per month in the past year, and the annual cost for membership was raised from £79 to £95. This marked the first time membership fees had been raised since 2014, with Amazon attributing the increase to factors such as rising inflation and operational expenses.
This announcement about delivery charges follows Amazon's report of record-breaking sales during its “Prime Day” event in July, which offered subscribers discounts on various products.

In conjunction with the event, hundreds of Amazon employees at a Coventry warehouse organized a walkout as part of a prolonged pay-related dispute. The GMB union disclosed that the Coventry warehouse workers had voted for an extension of strikes lasting six more months, a decision made in June.
