Britain to leave the European Union Single Market

Theresa May, the UK’s prime minister, has confirmed that her government will seek a clean break from the European Union and its single market.

May outlined for the first time her vision for how Britain’s exit from the bloc, or Brexit, would work, more than six months after the UK voted to leave the bloc.

She said she does not want Britain to end up with a partial or associate membership of the EU – or anything that leaves the country “half-in, half-out”.

Crucially, May also promised to give Britain's parliament a vote on the final Brexit agreement.
