Ivanka Trump Takes the Stand in Father's New York Fraud Trial.

In a New York court, Ivanka Trump testified in her father's $250 million fraud trial, providing an orderly and calm performance compared to the often chaotic testimonies of her father and brothers. When quizzed about deals prosecutors claim prove the Trump Organization knowingly misled lenders, she repeatedly responded with “I don't recall.” Ivanka Trump, who had not worked for the family firm since 2017, did not recall many specific conversations but had no reason to doubt them. Like her father and brothers, she consistently claimed not to recall details about specific transactions or conversations.

This trial is just one of several that the Republican presidential frontrunner is facing, as he has been charged with 91 felony counts across criminal cases in New York, Florida, Washington, and Georgia. New York's attorney general aims to demonstrate that the Trump family and other executives knowingly inflated Trump's wealth to secure favorable loans.

During her testimony, Ivanka Trump was shown a series of emails and documents related to a loan from Deutsche Bank's private wealth management division. She negotiated to get the net worth covenant reduced to $2.5 billion after a Trump lawyer expressed concerns. The prosecution alleges that Trump was not worth $2 billion at the time.

When asked about multiple documents and emails that showed her playing a key role in deals to obtain financing for the Trump Organization, she responded with “I don't recall.” She understood that the financial statements at the center of the case were used to guarantee a loan to purchase the Old Post Office building in Washington, D.C., which became the now-defunct Trump International hotel.

Trump's lawyers argued that Deutsche Bank was excited to do business with the family, and favorable loans were part of their attempts to woo them. Ivanka Trump said one of its top bankers had “expressed tremendous excitement to have our account.” Deutsche Bank severed ties with Trump in 2021 after the deadly January 6 U.S. Capitol attack.

Ivanka Trump had requested to be removed from the prosecution's witness list, claiming that appearing in court would cause her undue hardship if she were to testify during the school week. The attorney general's office rescheduled her appearance due to her appeal, and she appeared in court to testify as part of the trial.
