“Wellness at Your Fingertips: John Lewis Partners with Randox for In-Store Health Clinics”

In a strategic move to diversify its services and attract more footfall, John Lewis is set to provide health checks for customers, including assessments for vitamin deficiencies and hormone imbalances. Teaming up with Covid-19 testing company Randox Health, the retail giant will establish clinics within its stores, beginning with the High Wycombe location on December 18, followed by the Bluewater shopping centre branch in Kent.

The initiative comes as part of John Lewis's broader strategy to expand its service offerings amid a decline in sales. The retail chain aims to make healthcare more convenient and accessible for its customers. Randox Health will offer various health check programmes, starting at £295, providing individuals with insights into their well-being.

Randox Health gained prominence during the Covid-19 pandemic as a major supplier of Covid-19 tests. Despite facing scrutiny over contract awards, an investigation by the National Audit Office concluded that there was no evidence of impropriety in the government's contracts with Randox.

With High Streets and shopping centres grappling with the challenges posed by online shopping and the shift to remote and hybrid working, John Lewis seeks to enhance its appeal by offering a broader range of services. The move follows the trend of diversification seen in the retail sector, with John Lewis already hosting opticians, travel agents, beauty salons, and personal shopping services.

Sharon White, the chairwoman of John Lewis, has been driving this strategic overhaul. Her departure in February next year comes amid challenging times for the John Lewis Partnership, which reported a £59 million loss for the six months to July 29. While department store sales dipped 2% to £2.1 billion in the first half of the year, visitor numbers saw an 8% increase.

Naomi Simcock, the head of the John Lewis chain, expressed confidence in the partnership with Randox, describing them as an experienced and innovative partner to expand the range of in-store services. The move into healthcare services aligns with John Lewis's commitment to proactively address the health and well-being needs of its customers, marking a significant step in its ongoing transformation strategy.
