TGI Fridays' UK Business Rescued in Acquisition, Saving 1,384 Jobs: Full Details
TGI Fridays has announced the closure of 16 of its outlets across the UK, resulting in 456 job losses.
The popular American-themed restaurant chain has managed to keep its remaining 33 venues open after being rescued in a recent acquisition deal.

Interpath has been named as the administrator for Liberty Bar and Restaurant Group, which oversees TGI Fridays' operations in the UK, with the appointment occurring on Tuesday.
The sale of TGI Fridays' business and assets was swiftly finalised to an entity under Sugarloaf's ownership, which is responsible for the global brand management of TGI Fridays. This move has preserved the positions of 1,384 employees, according to statements from the administrators.
Phil Broad, the Global President of TGI Fridays, commented on the development, stating, “In our efforts to ensure the future stability of TGI Fridays in the UK, we have thoroughly explored all possible avenues. We are confident that this resolution not only safeguards numerous jobs but also provides a robust foundation for future success and expansion.”
Ryan Grant, Interpath's managing director and a joint administrator, expressed satisfaction with the outcome, highlighting the preservation of a beloved brand within the UK's dining scene. “The ability to retain the TGI Fridays presence is a significant achievement in what has been a challenging period for the hospitality sector. This step is crucial in TGI Fridays' recovery efforts, establishing the necessary stability for its progress,” he added.

Research conducted by Worldpanel by Numerator during the summer of 2025 demonstrated a 6% decrease in patronage at casual and fast-food restaurants compared to the prior year.
In December, UKHospitality issued a warning about the potential loss of an additional 100,000 workers in the sector following the Autumn Budget. Despite these challenges, the government maintained that the £4.3 billion support package introduced in the Budget would aid pubs, restaurants, and cafés.
This news follows the announcement from Leon, a prominent High Street food chain, which is set to close 20 of its restaurants and undergo staff reductions as part of a significant restructuring plan. Leon's co-founder cited a departure from the company’s original vision under the leadership of EG and Asda, alongside wider sector issues such as changing work habits due to the Covid pandemic, tax increases, and other challenges that have impacted the hospitality industry.
Further strains were noted in the sector with DC London Pie, the operator of Pizza Hut's UK restaurants, announcing the closure of 68 eateries and 11 delivery locations in October, leading to over 1,200 redundancies. The administrators pointed to “challenging trading conditions and escalating costs”, including tax obligations, as contributing factors to the decision.
