Weekday Weddings: The New Trend Saving Couples Thousands.

When Rachael Fletcher-Beaumont tied the knot last year, she was determined not to let her wedding drain their finances. “There's a perception that the word ‘wedding' adds noughts [to the cost of services],” says the 34-year-old from Bradford.

The key to saving Rachael and her husband Luke £3,000 was opting for a Thursday wedding instead of the traditional Saturday affair. This significant reduction in their wedding package cost allowed them to allocate funds to other aspects of their special day. “It was worth getting married on a Thursday, without a doubt,” says Rachael.

Their decision reflects a growing trend among couples, as revealed by research from the Bank of England and wedding planning apps. Increasingly, couples are choosing midweek dates for their nuptials, driven by the desire to cut costs without compromising on the celebration.

Holly Poulter, a wedding planner for Revelry Events, notes that the pandemic prompted couples to reconsider traditional weekend weddings, leading to a lasting shift towards weekday ceremonies. “The first thought couples have is that it has to be a Saturday, then they realise they may not care if it's not on a weekend if it puts a couple grand back in their pocket,” she explains.

Hazel Barnes, 59, echoes this sentiment, saving £3,000 by opting for a Thursday wedding in Datchworth, Hertfordshire. She found the price disparities across the week “disgusting” but is delighted with the savings, allowing them to enhance their wedding experience.

Similarly, Sophie Wardle, 29, found that hosting her wedding on a Thursday not only reduced costs but also allowed for a more intimate celebration in Wetherby, West Yorkshire.

Wedding Savings Secrets Saved £3,000

Even luxury venues like Hedsor House in Buckinghamshire offer substantial discounts for weekday weddings, attracting couples looking to make the most of their budget without compromising on quality.

While weekday weddings are gaining popularity, weekend ceremonies remain the norm for many couples, balancing budget considerations with guest convenience.

For Rachael, Hazel, and Sophie, their non-traditional choice of wedding day allowed them to create truly personal and memorable experiences, proving that saving money doesn't mean sacrificing the magic of their special day.
