“Unexpected Closure: SK:N Clinics Shuts Down, Leaving Patients in Limbo”
One of the UK's largest plastic surgery providers, SK:N Clinics, has collapsed, leaving customers and employees in the lurch. The Birmingham-based company, which operated more than 70 branches across the country, ceased trading as of 17 July.
Customers attempting to contact the main office on Tuesday were greeted with an automated message stating: “Unfortunately as of July 17, the SK:N Group, including SK:N Clinics, the Harley Medical Group, Skinbrands, The Skin Experts, and ABC Medical has ceased trading.”
Founded in 1990, SK:N Clinics expanded rapidly, establishing locations in major cities such as Manchester, Liverpool, and Glasgow, along with 17 clinics across London. The company, which also had branches in Wolverhampton and Leamington Spa, owned several brands, including the cosmetic surgery firm Harley Medical Group and skin technology company ABC Medical.
With a workforce comprising over 450 consultants, doctors, nurses, and medical practitioners, SK:N provided a range of services from tattoo and wart removal to acne and rosacea treatments, as well as cosmetic procedures like lip fillers and thread lifts. However, as of Wednesday, customers were informed their appointments would no longer proceed.
A notice displayed at the Birmingham city centre clinic stated: “We are very sorry to inform you that SK:N and The Harley Medical Group, as of 17 July, have ceased trading. As a result, we will no longer be undertaking service from this site with immediate effect. Further details will be made available on www.sknclinics.co.uk in due course. We will be contacting all clients still awaiting test results as soon as possible.”
By Tuesday evening, SK:N's website displayed a message explaining that despite extensive efforts to secure investment to continue trading, these attempts were unsuccessful. The company acknowledged the significant impact of this outcome on its employees and customers and expressed deep regret for the stress and inconvenience caused.
One customer, who wished to remain anonymous, revealed that their upcoming appointment had been abruptly cancelled. Having prepaid approximately £700 for a series of treatments, the customer expressed frustration over the lack of prior warning and the absence of information on obtaining refunds.
Communications firm Kendrick, the company's PR agency, confirmed the cessation of trading in an Instagram post, stating: “At this time, we have no information for the press and patients who are understandably reaching out to us wanting clarity on the situation. We have no information regarding how things are being managed by SK:N (or HMRC/debt collection), or how cancelled patient appointments/payments etc will be redressed. We are unfortunately in the same position as many staff and patients, and are sorry to have no news to share – this situation has blindsided us all.”
SK:N has been contacted for further comment.
