“Fly Anywhere, Anytime: Wizz Air's €499 Unlimited Travel Deal Explained”
Budget airline Wizz Air has unveiled a new ‘all you can fly' subscription, allowing customers to book unlimited flights for a yearly fee of €499 (£428). While airlines have long offered multi-flight packages, the concept of unlimited flights is still relatively novel.
This new offering is similar to deals provided by US-based Frontier Airlines and Malaysia's AirAsia. Wizz Air's subscription allows travellers to book flights to destinations across Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, and Asia by paying a flat fee of €9.99 per flight, with bookings made up to three days before departure.
The discounted price of €499 is available until 16 August, after which the cost will increase to €599. However, the airline is only offering 10,000 of these subscriptions, distributed among the airports it serves. When BBC News checked the airline's website, several airports were already listed as sold out.
Wizz Air has faced criticism in the UK for its customer service and frequent flight delays. The airline was recently named the worst for delays at UK airports for the third consecutive year, with its flights departing an average of 31 minutes late in 2022. Additionally, consumer group Which? has rated Wizz Air as the poorest performer in terms of customer service.
In June, Hungary's competition authority fined Wizz Air €770,000 for misleading communications, particularly in how it promoted more expensive travel packages. Wizz Air has disputed the fine's legality and is pursuing legal action.
Despite launching this new subscription model, Wizz Air has recently reported a 44% drop in its first-quarter operating profit and has lowered its profit forecast for the remainder of the year.
