All-Inclusive Package Costs Skyrocket: Top Strategies for UK Travellers

UK Family Holiday Prices Surge for Popular Destinations

In a recent report that may concern many British families, the cost of all-inclusive package holidays to some of the most favoured destinations has seen a significant price hike. Spain, Cyprus, and Turkey – traditional favourites among holiday-goers from the UK – are now markedly more expensive.

All-Inclusive Package Costs Skyrocket: Top Strategies for UK Travellers

TravelSupermarket's data, reviewed by the Reporters, has shown a noteworthy 23% increase in the average cost of a one-week stay in Cyprus this August, with prices rising from £950 per person to £1,166. Meanwhile, Italy and Tunisia are the only countries among the top 10 most-searched destinations to witness a decline in prices, dropping by 11% and 4% respectively when compared to the previous year.

The industry suggests that to manage costs, travellers are opting for shorter breaks or choosing mid-week flights. The most sought-after destinations, listed in order of popularity, include Spain, Greece, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Portugal, all of which have experienced price rises, with trips to the UAE soaring by 26%.

These findings are derived from online searches for all-inclusive, seven-night family holidays in August, comparing figures from last year to this year. However, it's advised that actual costs may vary based on destination specifics and booking times.

Julia Lo Bue-Said, chief executive of the Advantage Travel Partnership, attributed the price increases to a combination of factors, including the higher operational costs experienced by hotels and restaurants due to rising energy and food prices, as well as increased wages within the hospitality sector.

Despite the price hikes, there seems to be an upward trend of holidaymakers splurging on premium all-inclusive packages and opting for more expensive flight seats, as observed by travel agents.

Personal stories of how individuals are adapting to these increases shed light on the public's response. Ellie Mooney from Liverpool, a regular visitor to Turkey, mentioned how she saves throughout the year for her annual vacation. Others like Francesca Ramsden from Rossendale are embracing strategies to cut costs, from last-minute bookings to packing efficiently and choosing cheaper flights.

Travel consultants, such as Luke Fitzpatrick from Perfect Getaways in Liverpool, highlighted that many are reducing the duration of their holidays as a means to save money, switching from ten-night stays to shorter breaks or last-minute bookings.

For those looking to economise on holiday expenses, suggestions include opting for destinations with a stronger pound value, considering non-peak travel times, and exploring the potential savings of all-inclusive deals versus local dining costs. Despite the rising costs, the desire for international holiday experiences remains strong among UK families, prompting creative budgeting and planning strategies to make these cherished breaks a reality.
