BBC Cuts Ties with Jermaine Jenas Amid Workplace Conduct Complaints
Jermaine Jenas, a well-known presenter for BBC programmes such as The One Show and Match of the Day, has been dismissed by the broadcaster following allegations about his conduct in the workplace. The former professional footballer, 41, has been removed from both high-profile shows after the BBC terminated his contract earlier this week due to concerns regarding his behaviour, which reportedly involved digital communications like text messages.
A BBC spokesperson confirmed, “Jermaine Jenas is no longer part of our presenting team.” The last time Jenas was seen on air was earlier this summer. His role on The One Show was managed by BBC Studios, the corporation’s commercial production arm, so his salary details for that role remain undisclosed. However, his earnings for other BBC roles, including coverage of the FA Cup, Match of the Day, and the World Cup, were reported to be between £190,000 and £194,999.
In addition to his BBC work, Jenas has been involved with other media outlets. He was hosting a show on talkSport when news of his dismissal broke and is also employed by TNT Sports, although the latter has not commented on the situation. Jenas' profile has since been removed from his agent's website.
Jenas enjoyed a successful football career, making his debut at 17 with Nottingham Forest before going on to play for Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United. He also earned 21 caps for the England national team. After retiring from football in 2016 at the age of 32, he transitioned into media work, becoming a regular football pundit and eventually co-presenting The One Show starting in 2020.
Beyond his media and football careers, Jenas co-founded the Aquinas Foundation, which aims to raise aspirations among young people in Nottingham schools. He also participated in The Great Sport Relief Bake-Off in 2016 and was awarded an honorary degree from Nottingham Trent University in December 2023.
